Next Expo: SEPTEMBER 22-24, 2006, L.A. Convention Center
When shooting the Parade
of Stars in the mid 90s’” Lou Rawls posed for the shots
with celebs and staffers and donors, causing one lady to
comment “You sure are patient through all these photos!” To
which he replied in his deep baritone voice, “You last
longer that way.”
I never forgot that.

Congratulations National
Champions!
USC Coach Pete Carroll brings Christmas to youth at the
Watts Coffee House
Man. If you know any
Trojans, you know it was a tough Trojan
loss to the National Champions, University of Texas.
But if you really know us, you know that we're smiling,
because you have to thank USC for the ride...34 winning games in a
row, 2 national championships and some of the most
spectacular football in recent times, including a spanking
of cross town rival UCLA. This hype brought back winning to
the Southland, an area that has come to expect championships
and excellence. But, if we had to be beaten by someone,
let it have been Vince Young and his UT Team. What a clutch performance!
Congratulations to the victors. And congratulations to USC
Coach Pete Carroll, Reggie Bush, LenDale White (what a
game!) and the entire team.
From a business point of view: with all that
commercial opportunity from the Rose Parade to the Rose
Bowl, you have to wonder, are black businesses getting any
of the flow? Or are we settling for taking the
high honors of Rose Parade Queen, Rose Bowl stars and
even announcers? It wasn't that long ago that any of
the above was a reality.
Well, during the regular season,
Derrick Angus of Derrick's
Jamaican Cuisine sells his famous Jerk turkey dogs
in 6 stands ringing the Coliseum. USC Coach Pete Carroll (pictured
above) loves the grits at Watts Coffee House and hired its
crew led by Desiree Edwards to feed his team. This
Christmas, he came to the Watts Coffee
House and pitched in to help raise and personally
distribute toys to the children of Watts, a collaboration
with the generosity of Tai Collins. Click
here to see the photo slide show and read Desiree's comments
about the relationship.
Next week, we will bring to you the thoughts of Harold
Hambrick, Expo President who for the first time since
Hurricane Katrina revisited his beloved home state of
Louisiana over the holidays.
Thanks,

Rest in peace, Richard Pryor. The news of his passing
Dec. 10 came as quite a surprise, even though his health had
been failing. Richard was one of those icons of your
life that was just supposed to live on forever.
The good news is he is now free from MS, a disease that
attacks the body. Read more about the life of Richard

Enhancing
Your Website Using Video and Audio
by William Byers, Explorer Studios
As video and audio compression technology has
been developed and refined, it has become increasingly
easier to produce high-quality video with a minimum of
technical expertise. Instead of high-tech, Hollywood
production studios exclusively being able to produce quality
video for the Web, now even the most casual users can
produce top-notch video.
Who
is talking to your customer when you are not there? Does
your customer have something in his or her possession to
remember your company and the services offered when you are
not there?
Rosebud Marketing Group can take care of that problem for
you. They can put your name or your company name or logo on
anything such as pencils, ball point pens, key tags, watches
etc. Give them a call, tell them what you have in mind and
they will do the rest. “If you can imagine it, they can
create it.”
Rosebud Marketing Group is a Black owned business that
started at their present location in downtown Los Angeles in
1999. They have been in the promotional products business
since 1987. They showed their products at the Black Business
Expo for the first time in October 2005. The reason given
for never showing at the Black Business Expo was they
thought it was for business’ that catered to “retail
customers only” as it turns out this was one of the most
successful shows they have ever attended. The owner Thomas
Wilson said what they did not realize is that the people
attending the Black Business Expo were people that did
purchasing for the some of the largest companies in the
United States if not the world. “People visited our booth
from Union Bank, Toyota, Yamaha, BMW, City of Los Angeles,
City of Hope, DWP just to name a few” exclaimed Mr. Wilson.
“This was a very good show for us and we will definitely be
back next year.”
