Youth Summit: Thank You So Much!  From Nicole Chase, Coordinator

Enthusiastic students, superior speakers, and excellent talent highlighted the Youth Summit. Students were provided with tremendous amounts of information in interactive workshops about “how to star your own business”. They were given the opportunity to create a variety of types of businesses. They reviewed business planning, marketing, budgeting, advertisement, employment, finances, and technology. They engaged professionals in the Entertainment industry about opportunities behind the scenes, and they learned about the importance of positive self-esteem.

The workshops were followed by positive music and messages from Operation Education featuring Willie G. Michael Seale and Clyde Beasley were bonus features on the main stage, where the shared, with the entire students body, how they have persevered and built their own successful businesses, despite the challenges they continue to confront and overcome.

The Youth Summit Takes a Look at The “Big Picture”

by Kiyah Taylor

The Los Angeles Black Business Expo and Trade Show will host its 7th Annual Youth Summit Friday, September 10, 2004 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The Youth Summit provides an opportunity for college-bound students to learn about careers, and talk to representatives from several black colleges.

Director of the Youth Summit, Nicole Chase, is excited about this year’s theme the “Big Picture”. “We want the students to see how a team comes together to focus on a particular interests”, said Chase.

Students will have the opportunity to observe how professionals in various careers work. These workshops will focus on several lucrative careers, including: medicine, forensics, film/music, government, sports entertainment and the art industry.

In addition to the career workshops, students will also have the opportunity to hear a motivational speaker. The students will receive lunch, enjoy a musical performance, and have the opportunity to visit black college row.

Any student, professional, or college representative who is interested in participating can contact the Los Angeles Black Business Expo office at (323)290-4743.

About the Youth Summit:

The Youth Summit in its 7th year is a very important component of the LABBETS. It is a viable and valuable resource for young people to gain insight and knowledge about the world of business. Last year over 700 students participated in the Summit.

The purpose of this Summit is to introduce students to the world and culture of business and careers. This year’s theme focuses on “Leveraging Knowledge”. Knowledge is often the key that leads to opportunity. The interactive and educational workshops will explain and explore the science of building and structuring a business. In addition toe the Business workshop students will participate in an energizing Self Esteem workshop or have the opportunity to engage Entertainment Industry professionals about career choices behind the scenes.

Summit will begin at 9:00 am on 9/10/04
