ARTS, CULTURE AND MUSEUMS

From the Museum of African American Art, the California Afro American Museum and the Black Wax Museum, to the local schools from Marcus Garvey Schools to and Compton College California State, Dominguez Hills there is plenty to see, do and learn in Los Angeles.

African American Firefighter Museum
1401 S. Central Ave., Los Angeles
Telephone: 213.744.1730

One of only two fire stations in Los Angeles where African Americans were allowed to work until 1956, this beautifully restored station now stands as a museum to honor the courage and perseverance of LA's pioneering African American firefighters. Hearing the stories that are shared by a docent who actually served in this firehouse makes this experience so unique.
