How the Art Mart Became Part of the Expo

by Roscoe Lee Owens (written prior to the Expo)

Sparks fly from good conversations when it motivates to collaborative action.

Harold Hambrick, president of Los Angeles Black Business Expo & Roscoe Lee Owens of the Jazz Zone agreed that the collective work of The artists at the Pan African Film & Art Festival “Artist Market” would be great  to give a sneak preview at the  LA Black Business Expo. “Collective work and Responsibility” This Pan African Art Mart Pavilion will be the focus of a collaboration that is awesome. Don’t miss this!

The Fine Artist Market Pavilion will feature:

PAFF2005 featured Artist Nathaniel Bustion   http://www.nathanielbustion.com/theartist.html

Each generation has a few, relatively rare individuals whose creative visions and works can make of an era what it finally becomes. Nathaniel Bustion is among such individuals. His creativity has been consistently aligned with the vital forces in the arts during the sixties through the nineties.

PAFF 2006 featured Artist Djibril N’doye   http://www.djibrilndoye.com/shop/bio.htm

is an internationally recognized artist with artwork in galleries, universities, homes, and businesses throughout West Africa, the USA, Mexico, Cuba, Western Europe, and Japan.

Jazz Zone’s featured Artist Amos Harper http://www.jazzzone.net/Amos%20Harper.htm

Beautiful paintings can be created with water color, but must demonstrate some mastery of the medium because it is a medium with little or no forgiveness. Oil is  the second choice. It is also important to consider the style of the artist. Amos happens to work in several styles.  Abstract Expressionist and some of his Jazz Musicians & Cubic series paintings will be on display.

Artist: George Combs http://www.jazzzone.net/George%20Combs.htm

His mediums of choice are oils, acrylics, watercolors and mixed-disciplinary art form. In his collection there are beautiful sculptures and ceramics and portraits painted in oils with exquisite breath-taking details to gritty surrealistic oil painting influence by Salvador Dali's style depicting social injustices created to evoke every emotion the human body can imagine.

2 PM Saturday October 29th  George Combs will unveil a special painting inspired by and presented to Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa

Artist: Allohn Agbenya  http://www.jazzzone.net/allohn.htm

Allohn Agbenya's, Director PAFF Artist Market who is originally from Ghana, artistic activity began at the age of eight, when he worked with his father hand carving furniture. This was talent recognized by his follow students and teachers. He started carving wood sculptures, working with clay, painting and screen painting in his hometown. After earning a B.A.  in fine arts from the University of Science & Technology in Kumasi, he studied art with famed artist Michelline in Italy. He returned to Ghana and worked for the Catholic Cambodian Mission designing the ebony, gold, and ivory sculpture presented to Pope John Paul upon his visit to Togo in 1985. In 1989 Allohn moved to the United States where he drew upon his creative visions as a multimedia artist. His ability to design prints for textiles and his batik work was quickly recognized by professionals in the entertainment and artistic community. He is now a premiere artist specializing in hand-dyed, hand crafted wearable art for men and women.
