TWO MILLIONAIRES TO ADDRESS 2004 EXPO OPENING
The
story of Joe Dudley is a compelling one: This is a rags to riches story if ever
there was one: Going from meager beginnings as one of 11
children, considered retarded with a speech impediment – to
becoming the founder of Dudley Hair Care Products which grosses
$30 million annually and employs 500 people—this is the story of
Joe Louis Dudley, who started this journey with a $10
investment. (Click to continue) |

Cohee, CEO, OneUnited Bank, presenting sponsor. Cohee
will present the Business Courage award to Dudley at the Opening
Ceremonies Friday, Sept. 10 at 10 Am in the Tastin' Black

Thomas

The
Los Angeles Black Business Expo’s Network Reception was held Friday
evening at Dulan’s restaurant on Crenshaw in Los Angeles. The host, long
time food court exhibitor Greg Dulan, prepared well for the event. Even
valet parking was available. Dulan recently completed a renovation of
the facility, which now sports a covered patio.
This night,
networking was the name of the game and was in full force.
Seasoned exhibitors know that they will be busy come Expo time,
so they took advantage of the networking

In Memory of Business Man: Mr. Henri O'Bryant
We
are sad to report that Mr. Henri O'Bryant has made his transition.
Last year he worked at the Expo all three days, dressed in a fine suit
and telling all who would come about his plans for a youth academy.
The man who made his name in the choir robe business and was the
first black designer in Hollywood, was at 98, still taking the bus
everywhere he went up until a few months ago, when his mind and body
began to fail him. He had a leg amputated and shortly thereafter
passed on. His memorial services are pending. He was a
constant companion to Harold Hambrick and a familiar face at the Expo
offices. He will surely be missed.

Profiles of an Expo Media Sponsor

Natalie
Cole is currently Associate Publisher for the LA Weekly
What better headline than that statement? For
years Erin Aubrey has been the only person of color the African
American community saw in association with the edgy weekly paper, but
behind the scenes a few years ago, Natalie Cole was quietly
appointed to the high ranking post of associate publisher of the
news, art and entertainment publication.
Prior to joining the LA Weekly, she served
as Director of Advertising for the LA Times overseeing Sales Development
and the General Merchandising Divisions. She was also Director of
Classified for the Recycler Newspaper. At the peak of her career at the
LA Times, she lead an organization comprised of 200 sales and support
staff, 12 managers, and 10 locations with annual revenue in excess of
$50 million dollars. Cole has been in the newspaper business for 25
years and is a “known quantity” within the industry. Therefore,
she is often requested to present or speak at various conferences and/or
newspaper conferences. She has been a member of the Newspaper
Association of America and is currently a member of Association of
Alternative Newspapers.
We salute Natalie Cole who lent her
influence to help the mission of the Expo when she was at her former
employer and brought that same commitment with her to the L.A. Weekly
effecting their media sponsorship of the Expo. This is the
Weekly's second year involved with the Expo. The L.A. Weekly
team includes sales executive Paula Miller, and Nisa Aguilar,
promotions coordinator, who do a lot of the heavy lifting when it comes
to exhibiting at the Expo.
And yes, many people do a double take because not
only does Ms. Cole carry such a famous name, but she actually bears a
resemblance to her more famous namesake.
If you have any advertising for Natalie
Cole, call her at 323/993-3542.

King at 7 PM."
