Expo Update
has returned to our monthly publishing schedule.
We will send email updates when new information has been posted, so please
join our email list. As always, we welcome your input, stories and of
course, your paid ads. Simply email:
info@blackbusinessexpo.com
To Print Expo Update in Landscape Mode, go to "Print." Then select
"Properties." While each printer is different, there is usually a
tab that says "Layout" and there you can select "Landscape" as opposed
to Portrait (Or vertical) mode. Printing in landscape should allow you
to print the entire page (It may be about 12 pages!)

About Harold
Hambrick
LALA King And Queen 2005: Brenda
Oliver (left) and Harold Hambrick
He looked quite dapper in his Ahneva
Ahneva designed leopard skin and red satin cape, and his Second Line
hand crafted umbrella. The affair was a festive, packed house which
borrowed from the African, the Native American, the Bayou, the French
and the European as the
newly crowned King and Queen Waltzed before they Second Lined! The
Queen's name is Brenda Oliver. Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler!
New Orleans' first and
best-known African-American Carnival organization, formally known as the
Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club. The club was founded in 1909 by
African-Americans excluded from the city's mainline Carnival krewes,
which were often lampooned in Zulu's satirical antics. Zulu began to
parade in 1916, featuring characters such as King Zulu, Big Shot and the
Witch Doctor who are city
favorites to
this day. While Rex rules Carnival with a golden scepter
and jeweled crown, King Zulu carries a banana stalk and
wears a lard can on his head. And did we mention that
all of the krewe's maskers - now including men and women
of all races - wear black face and Afro wigs to turn the
tables on racial stereotypes? The prize of the Zulu
parade is a painted coconut; they used to be thrown from
the floats but are now handed out because of high
liability insurance costs due to the risk of injury to
spectators.

Wednesday
morning January 26th, as I left my home, I turned on
the news. The very first words I heard were about the Metrolink
crash in Atwater Village near Glendale. The report shocked me. I
had ridden Metrolink on that very same stretch of track the day
before, so I was obviously very concerned.

Whoever believes it never
rains in California either has not heard the rest of the song or
was not here last month. Record-breaking rains hit our state.
Floods, mudslides, landslides, road closures, roof collapses,
entire home collapses, and spectacular rescues dominated the
news. Had Noah come sailing by on his ark, no one would have
been surprised.

They come along with the territory of getting news out fast and not
having a lot of proofreaders. Will you be our eyes and ears? Please
