Expo Update
has adopted a "news on demand" system from now until the Expo, Sept.
10-12, 2004. (After that we will return to the monthly publishing schedule.)
We will send email updates when new information has been posted, so please
join our email list. As always, we welcome your input, stories and of
course, your paid ads. Simply email:
info@blackbusinessexpo.com
To Print Expo Update in Landscape Mode, go to "Print." Then select
"Properties." While each printer is different, there is usually a
tab that says "Layout" and there you can select "Landscape" as opposed
to Portrait (Or vertical) mode. Printing in landscape should allow you
to print the entire page (It may be about 12 pages!)

The Winter holidays are the time of year many businesses experience
a lift to their product sales. We here at the Los Angeles
Black Business Expo and Trade Show had hoped to provide a catalog of
products and services so that you could consider recycling your
dollars, but our businesses did not take advantage of the free
service. There are however a number of bazaars and things
coming up. Be sure to include Leimert Park on your holiday
shopping list. There are many one of a kind gifts there to
brighten anyone's home.
Marvin Sin, an artist based in Windsor, North Carolina, spends as
much time crafting his mailing list as he does making his fine

Master Drummer and Teacher Brother Dadisi Sanyika, long time
ASCAC Member and supporter needs your prayers and support.
He is suffering from terminal colon cancer. To
those of you who know Brother Dadisi, he is a Master Drummer and
long time student of Dr. Alfred Ligon. Moreover, he has done
the Drum Call for many of our national and regional conferences
as well as scholarly presentations. I met Dadisi in 1977 at a
citywide Kwanzaa teaching the children dance and drum through
Africa Culture. There is much I can say regarding this brother
however I simply want to state He is a Black man from the Nile,
a warrior and a teacher who loves us.
Let us give him some love right now. Send forth the spirit of
healing.

New law gives
consumers tools to monitor and protect their credit
What is FACTA?
FACTA is the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act of 2003. It
is intended to ensure "that all citizens are treated fairly when
they
apply
for...credit." It aims to do this by providing consumers with tools
that give them greater access to their own credit information, while
offering a potent weapon in the fight against identity theft. For
Californians and other consumers who reside in the western states,
December 1, 2004 is an important date for you.
What does FACTA
mean to you? The most important aspect of FACTA is that now everyone
will be entitled to receive a free copy of his or her credit report
once a year. Take advantage of this new provision because it is one

AFRICAN MARKETPLACE
EXPANDS BUSINESS INCUBATOR PROGRAM
by Emma Pullen
African Marketplace, Inc. has expanded its business
incubator program by changing the name of one of its year
round boutiques into the African Marketplace Import Export
Emporium and moving to a new location on the 2nd Floor of the
Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza, near Sears.
The import export emporium continues African Marketplace, Inc.'s
mission to provide a retail outlet that allows independent
vendors of the African Diaspora, who
do not have a store of their own, the opportunity to sell their
authentic designer African clothing, artifacts, masks, shoes,
jewelry and other merchandise on a year round basis.
The emporium is an extension of the African Marketplace &
Cultural Faire, which provides a commercial outlet for 300
vendors each year to reach nearly 250,000 people, over three
week-ends.
The African Marketplace also expands the
mission of African Marketplace, Inc. founder James V. Burks,
who has spent 19 years creating strategic global business and
cultural alliances. On the eve of the African Marketplace &
Cultural Faire's 20th Anniversary, plans are underway for the
construction of the first permanent Pan African World Trade
Center in the United States in Bayview Hunters Point, where the commercial
center will be located, is the traditionally African American
community of San Francisco.
In addition to the Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw
Plaza, African Marketplace Inc. maintains a year-round presence
in Los Angeles through its boutique in the Fox Hills Mall, as
well as, its alliance with the Celebrate African American
Heritage festival in Leimert Park and more.
For more information about the African
Marketplace Import Export Emporium, call Ursaline Bryant at
