Expo Update
has returned to the monthly publishing schedule.
We send email updates when new information has been posted, so please
join our email list. As always, we welcome your input, stories and of
course, your paid ads. Simply email:
info@blackbusinessexpo.com
To Print Expo Update in Landscape Mode, go to "Print." Then select
"Properties." While each printer is different, there is usually a
tab that says "Layout" and there you can select "Landscape" as opposed
to Portrait (Or vertical) mode. Printing in landscape should allow you
to print the entire page (It may be about 12 pages!)

receive your text in the body of your email as opposed to an attachment.
(Attached flyers mean we have to retype your story. If you send it

your website so we may add photos to jazz up your story! We do not
guarantee submissions. Exhibitors are given first preference.

This year, all
eyes will be on the 17th Annual Mardi Gras Scholarship Fundraiser,

City. This Black Tie Masquerade Optional affair is a "must attend"
affair. For tickets ($55) contact Bill Doucette (323) 737-2127
The annual festival will not be held because of the close proximity to
King celebrations.
THIS JUST IN: Newsflash: our own president Harold Hambrick

let's come out en force to support Harold and raise money for
scholarships for students. Get your ticket today!
Save the Date: We have a preliminary
ad/flyer available for download. We are starting early to create
the awareness about the change in dates (October instead of September)
and to get the word out earlier to consumers who will support our
business. Please click the thumbnail photo at left to download the flyer
and include in your programs for your special events, church bulletins,
etc.

Suicide?
For those businesses paying the high costs of insurance as a
result of high crime rates, you can thank Crack Cocaine for at least
some of that. We found it interesting to note over the
holidays that the man who brought the origins of the crack epidemic
to our attention committed suicide at the age of 49. Here is
an article with further links to the work of journalist Gary
Webb. Although his work was discredited by higher ups,
those of us who feel it know it. The Final Call Has More:

On the Late Freight: KDAY is back...It's 93.5 FM. Been
back since September! My kids were listening to it when they
were home from college over the break. Do a Google search and
you will see posts at places
like this or visit its temporary website:
http://www.935kday.com/ The
Baka Boys are reportedly hosting afternoons and Greg Mack is
supposed to be a consultant but I could not get a confirmation on
that. Great marketing opportunity to reach the young and young at
heart.
Last fall, an American institution,
the
Dance Theatre of Harlem, found itself on shaky fiscal footing.
Rumors floated that it would have to cancel its season due to
flagging finances. Indeed, they did draw the curtain on their
season, laid off staff and dancers, but vowed to keep the school
open. However, DTH could no longer afford to keep up its insurance
payments. Two weeks later their insurance was cancelled. As a result
of that near-fatal two-step, the school itself was forced to take
what appeared to be its final bow on October 16th. (Click

Now you can
harness even more of the power of the Internet. A new technology
called Voice Over Internet Protocol, or VoIP, enables voice signals
to be sent over the Internet instead of through traditional
telephone lines. In its simplest description, you just plug your
current landline phone into a small box, which is provided when you
subscribe to the service. The box, in turn, connects to your
computer. Then dial any phone number just as you normally would. The
difference is now the signal is being carried

Well, OK don't let your kids watch especially if you have a new

Hotel Rwanda: We know, we know, this news is old as dirt,
but if you haven't seen it yet, please make an effort to see
Hotel Rwanda. Don Cheadle did a masterful performance and
the subject matter is something Africans in America need to pay
close attention to.
Last month, thanks to Queen Nzinga, we sounded the alarm
on behalf of Dadisi Sanyika, who is suffering from colon cancer.
This talented drummer is now halfway through a
